Happy World Card Making Day To You

Have you made a card today?

World Card Making Day is a relatively new 'day', even though cards themselves have been around for hundreds of years. But when I tried to find out how and when it started the facts were no where to be found!

It is celebrated on the first Saturday of October, and people seem to think it was started around 2010, but other than that it's a mystery... do any of you, dear readers, have more information?

Interestingly enough I just happened to have judged a collection of 4H greeting cards last night. Let me tell you - those kids are GOOD! I'm always impressed with the quality and creativity of their work.

And while I can't show you any of their work (copyright, privacy, and all that) I thought I'd share with you what makes a really good card.

1. Quality, heavy weight card stock.
2. Clean cuts and straight lines.
3. Balanced layout.
4. Clean, even, and straight stamping.
5. Papers and embellishments attached securely.
6. No excess glue left on the card.

If you have all of that even the simplest card will be beautiful.

Here are two cards I made for my granddaughters. They are both tri-fold cards, but with different measurements. The first was inspired by Connie Babbert.

The figures on this card are made and punched with the Cookie Cutter Halloween stamp set and the Cookie Cutter Builder Punch. This has got to be the most popular set (along with Cookie Cutter Christmas stamp set) in the Holiday Catalogue this year.

The Designer Series Paper is found in the Holiday Catalogue too. It's called Halloween Night and there's a Designer Series Paper Sale happening this month too! For more information on that, scroll down...)

The second card was inspired by Dawn Griffith and also uses Designer Series Paper and the the Stamp Set Spooky Fun.

The tree is cut using the cooresponding Halloween Scenes Edgelits Dies, and they are so fun! You'll see much more of this tree in upcoming Christmas cards too!

Here is the Designer Series Paper promotion I mentioned above:

And if you need some inspiration to get started on your World Card Making Day card, here are some project ideas from Stampin' Up!

Happy Stamping!
